About KKR

What We Do

We help stray and unwanted animals by providing veterinary care and a safe, loving, enriching environment. We do not adopt animals out. Our primary focus is on providing permanent sanctuary to high needs animals that thrive here, and that may not be appropriate candidates for adoption due to reasons related to health or behaviour. We also offer community programs, including Pet Food Assistance and Subsidized Spays/Neuters when funds and supplies are sufficient to operate these programs.

Mission

To sterilize and provide veterinary care to stray and unwanted animals in need. Our primary focus is on providing permanent sanctuary to high needs animals that thrive here, and that may not be appropriate candidates for adoption due to reasons related to health or behaviour.

Description

We are a 100% volunteer based organization founded in January 2014 out of acknowledgment of the overwhelming number of homeless and unwanted animals in the province.  Our small rescue strives to help animals in need, especially those with limited options. Whether an animal ends up at a local pound or is found as a stray trying to survive on it’s own, we want to do what we can to assist. In October 2016, an 8.8 acre rural property and home south of Sperling, MB was purchased by our Director, Kathy, and rescue operations were relocated there.  All animals in our care are seen by a veterinarian and are spayed/neutered, tattooed, blood tested, vaccinated, and dewormed (at minimum). We take pride in providing a very high quality of care to all animals that enter our rescue/sanctuary program. We operate on a small scale and can only take in new animals when we have space and time available and when we are in a position financially to provide the supplies and care necessary. Kat’s Kritters is unique in that we offer a cage free environment where animals in our care can live enriching lives, learn from other animals, and progress at their own pace. Please consider donating to help us on this journey to save lives.

We are a unique rescue in that we make a commitment to each animal that comes into our care. We take our time getting to know each individual animal and do not rush them through our system. While we may not take in large numbers of animals each year, every animal in our care receives the absolute best quality of life. After they have been fully cleared by our veterinarians, the majority of animals will reside with our Director in a rural, cage free environment. Dogs co-habitate and socialize with other dogs, and cats join one of multiple free range rooms where they can interact with other cats. We do not adopt animals out, as our primary focus is on providing permanent sanctuary to those high needs animals that thrive in our care and may not be appropriate candidates for adoption for reasons related to health or behaviour.

In 2020, the rescue closed our adoption program so that we could focus on transitioning to a Sanctuary for animals that are deemed “unadoptable” for reasons of behaviour and/or health. These animals will live out their lives at the rescue, or, occasionally, in a permanent foster situation, receiving top notch care. We take in these higher needs animals and provide an enriching, high quality life on a permanent basis for them, ensuring their medical and behavioural needs are managed each day.

Providing for many high needs animals for the duration of their lives means we are always in need of monetary and supply donations to keep going! It requires a tremendous amount of funds and supplies to ensure quality care for the up to 70 animals relying on us each and every day. All Animals Matter

Kat’s Kritters Rescue believes that all animals, not just companion animals, deserve our respect and love.  We ensure our events serve food that is vegan and we will not exploit animals in any way to raise funds. Our hope is to extend our compassionate views towards animals to our followers and to foster respectful public dialogue. We recognize the value of all animals and desire to do our part to reduce animal suffering.
